What is floating?

Floating is also known as REST (Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy), sensory deprivation therapy or isolation tanks.

It involves a session (typically 60-90 minutes or longer) that is spent in a tank, chamber or pod that has the ability for darkness and silence (this is often at users discretion though if you prefer lights on they can be). At Sal de Terra we have two Superior deluxe float rooms that are about 7.5 ft long by 6.5ft wide. They are big enough for 2 floaters if you want to bring a friend

What to expect during a session:

After showering you will enter a clean, salt water environment that is heated to just about body temperature. There is about 1500lbs of salt in 11inches of water and so you will be able to float easily and not worry about the water being too deep.

The darkness, warmth and silence all then allow the body to go into a meditative type state. This allows the brain and body to recover from everyday stresses and will leave you feeling a sense of renewal, rejuvenation and relaxation.

What are the benefits of floating?

  • Promotes deep relaxation and stress relief (1, 3)

  • Reduced anxiety (1, 3)

  • Reduced muscle tension (2, 4)

  • Improved sleep quality after sessions (5)

  • The therapy encourages mindfulness and self-awareness, enhancing mental clarity and creativity (3)

  • Regular practice may support physical recovery, reducing inflammation and aiding in pain relief (2, 3, 4, 5)

  • Overall well-being and rejuvenate both body and mind (3)

“Practice like you’ve never won. Perform like you’ve never lost.”– Unknown

Practice makes perfect, even when floating, so don’t stop with your first float. Floating is a practice to be cultivated, try at least 3 floats before making a decision to continue or not.

The more you do it the better you will become and the more benefits you will see from Floating.
