Floating is very sanitary. The float tanks are thoroughly cleaned between each floater.
First the tanks are saturated with over 1000 pounds of Epsom Salt - this makes the water inhabitable to any bacteria or microorganisms. Think the Dead Sea level salt.
Then after each session the entire volume of water is filtered 3 times through a state of the art filtration system developed by Superior Float Tanks and is one of the STRONGEST water sanitation systems for float tanks currently. The water first passes through a 1 micron filter which is technically the equivalent of a FDA approved drinking water filter. As an example spa and pool filters only filter to 20-30 microns. From there the filter then uses ozone, hydrogen peroxide and UV light it ensures that the water is hygienic for the next floater.
The rooms are also always wiped down prior to the next floater.

Most people start with 60 or 90 minute floats. Time goes by very fast in there. The more you do it the more you might want to try longer floats.
We can arrange for even longer floats if you desire- chat with us and let us know if you want to and we will work to make it happen.
Floats <60 minutes are typically not done, you really need at least 45 minutes to settle fully into the float and then really start relaxing. If you feel you need a shorter float then please let us know and we will see if we can accommodate the request.

Here at Sal de Terra we have Float Cabins which are about 8’ long and about 7’ wide. At 7’ tall you are able to stand up in them.
You can have lights on, there are LED lights in the ceiling and there is a light in the water in the tank. You can have both on or one or the other on or shut them all off.
You have the ability to have music on or just silence, completely up to you.
You can leave the door open to the tank or you can keep it shut.
There really are lots of possibilities to keep people feeling comfortable. You try what works and the more you do it things may change and you may want a different environment.
If you are still concerned feel free to chat with us and we can give you other tips.

Great! Many people do feel like they fall asleep when floating. It is usually a sign of a good meditative state. That being said if you do fall asleep it is usually a very light sleep and most people wake up quite easily.
If you do fall asleep the buoyancy of the water will keep you up but if you reposition and get water in your face or mouth you will wake up and notice this.
-
The float tank has a very high salt content so ALMOST everyone can float.
Let us know if you end up having trouble and we can make some recommendations of things to try on your next float.
-
No swimming experience is necessary. The float tank is 11 inches deep so if you sit up you will touch the bottom without trouble. You will not feel the tank with floating but when you want to you will have no issues finding the bottom/sides.
The buoyancy of the water also helps non-swimmers feel good about being in the water.
The chance of drowning in 11 inches of water for an adult is very slim but we can’t say it could never happen so you do ultimately float at your own risk.
You should NEVER float while intoxicated from any substance (alcohol, drugs or medications). This is an absolute no at Sal de Terra and Floaters who are suspected to be under the influence will be asked to leave and will not receive a refund.
-
The water temperature is warmed to about body temperature so most people do not feel warm or cold. It is just right!

Yes, definitely.
Treat the float tank just like you would a pool and plan to use a tampon, disc or cup.

Yes, definitely!!
Floating during pregnancy is very helpful for many for a variety of reasons.
Being weightless/floating can help take pressure off the joints that occurs during pregnancy.
The Epsom salt in the water can help with cramping of the muscles that happens during pregnancy for some people.
Many people report that during the deep meditative state of floating that they experience an even deeper connection with their babies
We would always defer to your OB/Midwife for recommendations if you have any concerns or if there are any complications in your pregnancy. Err on the side of caution and ask them if you are not sure.

Yes!
16-18 - a parent needs to sign the waiver but does not need to stay on site for the float
13-16 - a parent needs to stay on site for the first float (may also be floating) and then after that may drop off depending on comfort of all involved.
12 and under - a parent needs to stay in the room/on site for the first float (may not float) and from there on will be at the discretion of the staff

The more you float the better you will get at it!
During your initial floating experiences if you can float at least 3 times in the first 60-90 days that is the best. It will really give you and idea of how your body responds to floating and if it is something that you want to do more regularly.
Depending on what you are floating for that will determine the frequency of your floating. Consider floating as a therapy or treatment for your body so some people need to do it weekly, some every other week and some just once a month.
